Temporary Membership

An accepted applicant, who has met all registration requirements (with the exception of the examination) and paid the registration fees, will become a Temporary Member of NSDA and will write the Canadian Dietetic Registration Examination at the next available sitting. 
A temporary member can work in the capacity of a dietitian; but may not use the titles/designations protected by the Professional Dietitians Act.  Temporary members may use the designation Professional Dietitian (candidate) or P. Dt (c).
Temporary members have all of the rights and privileges of members except voting privileges and eligibility to sit on the board of directors.
NSDA Bylaws (2007):  TEMPORARY MEMBERSHIP (section 2(c))
(2)  A Temporary Membership is valid until one of the following conditions ensues:
(a)  the Temporary Member becomes a licensed member or
(b)  the Temporary Member fails the exam.
(3)  A candidate who has failed the exam may request an extension of Temporary Membership. The candidate must be able to support the request for an extension to the Registration Committee. The Registration Committee may grant one extension to a Temporary Member for a period of up to one year from the date the Temporary Membership originally took effect.
(4)  A candidate shall have three opportunities in four years to challenge the qualifying exam. If the first two attempts result in failures, proof of upgrading will be required to become eligible to challenge the exam for the third and final time.

Fee Schedule for Temporary Members

The fee schedule applies only to new members who have held temporary membership in NSDA for the purpose of writing the CDRE.  It does not apply to members transferring from another jurisdiction.

Temporary membership fee: $155/year

The temporary membership fee is due upon acceptance for temporary membership.  It is pro-rated based on the month that you register and effective until you receive your exam result.
Upon receipt of your exam result, you will be required to pay the licensed membership fee.  It is pro-rated and effective until the next annual renewal deadline (March 31).

Candidates Writing the May 2011 Exam

Your temporary membership fee will be
$142 if you register in September
$130 if you register in October
$116 if you register in November
$103 if you register in December
$90  if you register in January
$78  if you register in February
$65  if you register in March
Upon receiving your exam result in July, you will be required to pay the pro-rated licensed membership fee, effective until March 31, 2012.  This will be $103.
The renewal fee for your first full year will be $155.  Thereafter, you will pay the regular fee of $310.

Candidates Writing the November 2010 Exam

Your temporary membership fee will be
$142 if you register in March
$130 if you register in April
$116 if you register in May
$103 if you register in June
$90 if you register in July
$78 if you register in August
$65 if you register in September
Upon receiving your exam result in January, you will be required to pay the pro-rated licensed membership fee, effective until March 31, 2011.  This will be $26.
The renewal fee for your first full year will be $155.  Thereafter, you will pay the regular fee of $310.
