Continuing Development Self-Directed Learning Tool (CDT)
The public has the right to expect that dietitians and nutritionists maintain competence to practice throughout their careers. The primary responsibility for continuing competence rests with the dietitian/nutritionist, as outlined in the Dietitians in Canada Professional Standards and Nova Scotia Code of Ethics for Professional Dietitians, however; an employer and NSDA share in the responsibility.
The Alliance of Canadian Dietetic Regulatory Bodies has made continuing competence a national priority. The NSDA program focuses on a proactive approach to continuing development, one that promotes self-assessment and continuous quality improvement.
As part of it’s Continuing Development Program, NSDA has produced a self-directed learning tool designed to help dietitians and nutritionists reflect on their practice and develop goals and learning plans to maintain competency in their practice. This approach promotes professional accountability.
